Mr. Hashmi is a career diplomat. Before joining as Consul General in Houston, he held important assignments both at Pakistan Missions Abroad and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad, as follows.
Academic Qualification
i. Masters in International Policy;
ii. Masters in Diplomacy (Australia 2007-09);
iii. Bachelors of Science (Peshawar University 1991-93)
iv. Fellow on “fresh water diplomacy” (2017-18) at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA), Carleton University, Canada
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad
i. Director General of Protocol (2016-2019) responsible for providing services to the Foreign Diplomatic Missions in Pakistan;
ii. Helped craft and implemented Pakistan’s E-visa as lead person;
iii. Director Kashmir & India (2009-10) dealing with bilateral political issues, Kashmir dispute and water sharing etc.
iv. Deputy Director (Personnel) and Director to the Special Secretary (2006-07);
v. Assistant Director responsible for maters relating to Kashmir dispute & human rights etc.;
vi. Desk Officer (Southeast Asia & Pacific) dealt with bilateral and ASEAN matters;
vii. Joined Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1999.
Pakistan Missions Abroad
i. Acting High Commissioner of Pakistan to Canada (2014-2016) covering political, commercial and cultural bonds and that for Trinidad & Tobago.
ii. Counsellor Political (2010-2014) at High Commission for Pakistan, New Delhi, responsible for the bilateral political/dialogue process, visa and pilgrims issues.
iii. Second Secretary (2003-06) Beirut, Lebanon and the Republic of Cyprus.
iv. Embassy of Pakistan, Kuwait where also learnt Arabic.
He is married and has three children.
